EMPOWERED TO SERVE
“For by the Sacrament of Confirmation, [the baptized] are more perfectly bound to the Church and are enriched with a special strength of the Holy Spirit. Hence they are, as true witnesses of Christ, more strictly obligated to spread and defend the faith by word and deed.” (CCC 1285)
A Word about Service
Service is based on the spiritual and corporal works of mercy and, most of all, on the example of Christ who came to serve. When giving service, the following points should be considered:
It is selflessly and lovingly helping those in need. Your service is not just a job to be done.
You should reflect on how your service project is helping you take on the mind and heart of Christ, fulfill the needs of others, and build up the Christian Community.
The giving of service should continue after your Confirmation, and all through your life.
Guidelines for Service
All Confirmation Candidates are required to complete 20 hours of service to their church with at least 10 of those hours spent in service to the Catholic Church (or various outreach ministries of the Catholic Church), 5 hours devoted to serving their family and 5 hours serving their community.
All service must be in line with the teachings of the Catholic Church, and must be performed in a spirit of charity towards God and neighbor.
All service must be completed within one year prior to the Confirmation date.
Service hours must be recorded using the provided service hours log sheet available at the link below.
Parents must be willing to bear witness that the candidates completed their service requirements by signing below the log sheet.
All Service Hours are due by February 27, 2019. Candidates who have not completed service hours will not be allowed to be Confirmed.
